Android 15 unveils new security features to protect data

Google has launched the latest version of its mobile operating system, Android 15 with a sensitive data protection feature. The update is specially designed for pixel phones and tablets and is available in Pixel 6 and higher series.

Google has officially launched Android 15, the latest  Android operating system. The update is available for download in device settings in Pixel phones and tablets of Pixel 6 or higher series.

The Android 15 offers enhanced security features including protection from theft and fraud. In addition, improvements in screen size, app updates, messaging features, etc are the main highlights of the updated version.

Theft detection lock

Android 15 update comes with a theft detection feature that protects the data at every stage. Integrating with artificial intelligence, it senses a theft and automatically locks the phone, thereby protecting the data. It also necessitates authentication for activities like removing SIM  and disabling ‘Find My Device’, eliminating the chances of intruding by strangers or thieves.

The device gets locked after multiple failed attempts, making it difficult to reset.

The offline device lock prevents the extraction of data offline while a remote lock secures the device as soon as it is lost or stolen, one can lock the phone using a verified phone number.

An enhanced factory reset protection eliminates the risk of resetting the devices by thieves without the user’s Google credentials.

Android 15 new security features

Private space to hide sensitive apps

The private space in Android 15 helps users hide sensitive apps separately. The apps become invisible from the app list, recent searches, notifications, and other areas of the device. It also provides an option to hide the entire private space, elevating privacy like never before. The private space can only be accessed by a successful authentication.

Multiple apps launching on tablets and foldable

With the new update, foldable and tablet users can open two apps simultaneously using the split screen feature. A single tap splits the screen showing different apps launched together. The new toggle feature helps in the quick pinning and unpinning of the taskbar.

Expanded camera controls for third-party apps

Android 15 includes the Low Light Boost feature which improves the quality of images taken in low-light conditions. Third-party apps gain increased control over camera features including flashlights.

Messaging updates

Devices with Android 15 updates support satellite connectivity, allowing users to send and receive messages without wifi or mobile network connection with a carrier app.

Passkey updates

Apps using passkeys can be logged in using a single tap, elevating the seamless navigation experience.

How to get updated to Android 15?

To get an Android 15 update, users have to meet certain requirements,

  • The device has to be a pixel phone or tablet.
  • The series has to be pixel 6 or higher.

Once you meet the above requirement you are eligible for an Android 15 update. The steps include going to settings > system >system update.
