Apple and Samsung Eye Intel Acquisition Amid Financial Struggles

Apple and Samsung Allegedly Looking to Buy Intel

Intel is a popular name in the technological field that has led to revolution and innovation for centuries. Found in 1968, Intel has been a constant factor in the growth and development of computers in the world. The trajectory of the modern computing landscape witnessed a steady rise with the development of Intel. Ranging from the micro chipsets to the latest Intel core series, these technological giants have leveled up the power of personal computers as well as data centers.

According to recent studies, the company has also shifted its focus to the latest technologies including artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles. However, no matter how giant the Intel corporation was, reports suggest that they are in a trembling phase, struggling to make up for the losses and failures faced in recent times. Several reports have been popping up suggesting some or the other hurdles faced by Intel.

A report that came out at the beginning of this month noted that with the huge decline in sales of Intel, Qualcomm was planning to acquire the company. According to this report, Intel lost a multi-billion dollar contract with PlayStation due to its reduced performance. The launch and cancellation of tepid Arrow Lake and other architectures also made things worse for the company.

There was another report that suggested that amidst these crises, the company was planning to lay off 15 percent of its staff due to low income. It also suggested that Intel faced its lowest dip in half a century, closing its trading at $21.48. However, experts suggest that laying off staff and suspending stock dividends were not enough to overcome the current loss faced by the tech giants. With these reports streaming across the business world, the latest news suggests that Samsung and Apple are allegedly looking to take up Intel.

Experts suggest that this acquisition, if true will mark a significant episode in the history of the smartphone market. Smartphone brands are on a quest to bring thinner designs every time they come up with a new model. This can also be achieved by introducing smaller and more efficient chipsets. So, owning Intel will significantly help giants like Apple and Samsung.

Apple has been relying on TSMC for producing high-end chips. They have already ordered all the 2nm chips for the future. By acquiring Intel, Apple can reduce this dependence on an external company, reducing their expenses.

Similar is the case of Samsung as it can make use of Intel foundry’s IP to research and support the production capacities of its own products. Recent reports suggest that Samsung foundry’s recent nodes are not as efficient, leading to 20% yields on its 3GAP process. So, by owning Intel Samsung can rectify this issue, leading to an increased profit.

However, no official confirmations have been given from the side of Intel, Apple, or Samsung regarding the acquisition news. So, until then, this stays as a rumors without any official confirmations. Furthermore, Intel has been working day and night to overcome its losses.

Recently, it teamed with AMD to produce x86 EAG. along with this, Intel has also received huge contracts from Amazon Web Services and the United States Department of Defense to produce Intel 18A and military-grade chips respectively. The future plans and launches of Intel including Panther Lake and Lunar Lake are expected to have the potential to uplift Intel from its losses.
