Apple Intelligence in EU iPhones and iPads

Apple officially announced its long-awaited Apple Intelligence, which is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, on Monday, 28 October. They are currently available only if the language is set to US English and will be more accessible in the European Union in April 2025, the company confirmed.

The first-generation Apple Intelligence is now available as a free software update with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. The cutting-edge Apple Intelligence features can be accessed in most regions of the world from Monday onwards, but the device and Siri language should be set to US English.

Mac users in the European Union can already access Apple Intelligence with macOS Sequoia 15.1 by setting the language to US English. By April next year, iPhone and iPad users can use the core features of Apple Intelligence in the EU including Siri assistance, customized with a better language understanding.

The strict data privacy regulations and the Digital Markets Act in the EU are the cause of this delay in the accessibility of Apple AI. Changing the language to US English will be inconvenient for many EU users of Apple devices and won’t be able to get the fruit out of the technology which is supposed to be personal and customized for individual needs.

Apple previously this year announced the launch of the macOS 15 Sequoia at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24), which has an iPhone mirroring feature. But the key attraction of the Conference was the announcement of Apple Intelligence which will be available on iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

The first version of Apple Intelligence will be available in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15 with an improved Siri, email, message and notification summaries, text writing tools, natural language search, image editing, and a lot more.

The early version of Apple Intelligence is currently only available in US English and the launch of iOS 18.2 which is now in the beta developer stage, will offer many more Apple intelligence features as the company offered to provide at WWDC24. The current iOS 18.1 does not fully provide all the features of Apple AI, but by 2025 a major AI development can be witnessed.

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 can be used to modify and proofread texts and summarize emails and notifications with the help of Writing Tools. Clean Up feature in the Photos app is also available. The list of AI features on iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 are long but many are simple and not groundbreaking innovations.

iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 will unlock Apple Intelligence’s most awaited features like Image Playgrounds, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration. By the time Apple Intelligence rolls out in the EU, these features are also expected to be available.

Apple also stated that many languages will be quickly added to Apple Intelligence. They have confirmed that Apple Intelligence will be available for localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK in December this year.

The year 2025 looks like a year that is going to witness major AI updations as Apple confirmed a software update in April, which will expand the language support and many more features throughout the year. Chinese, Indian English, Singaporean English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages will be supported by 2025.

The company confirmed Apple Intelligence will be available on devices like iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Mac with M1 and later.
