Apple Launches New iPad mini With AI Features

The brimming competition from all sides to bring fresh ideas and innovations to devices pushes even a top-tier brand like Apple to incorporate everything possible into its latest gadgets.

Every Apple launch is a much-awaited moment for gadget lovers worldwide. While the latest iPhone 16 series is considered a disappointment by many, the new iPad mini is quite promising.

Apple launched its latest version of the iPad mini on Tuesday, October 15, with improved AI features like the AI assistant Siri and writing tools. The iPad supports Apple Pencil, Apple Pencil Pro, and Apple Pencil Hover. Apple also stated that the additional AI features powered by image-generation tools, Genmoji and ChatGPT will be introduced within months.

The iPad is powered by an A17 Pro Chip, just like in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, that offers a 30% increase in performance. This supports AI processing as it has a 16-core neutral engine (NPU) that doubles the processing speed. It has a 6-core CPU with 2 and 4 performance and efficiency cores respectively. The chip also has a 5-core GPU.

The latest iPad mini is the 6th generation and comes in four color ranges. 12MP wide camera, 4k video and 12MP ultra-wide front camera, landscape stereo speakers, wi-fi only model or wifi + cellular model, 5G connectivity, 128, 256, and 512 GB of storage, touch ID on the power button, and smart HDR for photos are some of the other features of this latest model.

iPad mini comes in the usual sleek design with not much of a change. A slight variation in height from 8 inches to 7.69 inches and the same width of 5.3 inches. It has an 8.3-inch liquid retina display, compared to the normal retina display of the 4th Gen iPad mini, and a P3 wide color and true tone display.

It has the privacy protection that Apple offers on its devices and a better Apple Intelligence that enables effortless services. The feature is built into the device with various new writing tools, that have an improved language capability. Summarizing paragraphs, getting details, and editing are now easier on the new iPad mini. Generating images using Genmoji is also personalized. ChatGPT is also integrated with Siri for a better writing experience.

Audio descriptions, live captions, and typing to Siri are also possible other than voice recognition.

iPad mini comes with a USB C port cable and 20W adapter. It has a built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery with a 19.3-watt-hour capacity and up to 10 hours of battery life. Charging via USB-C to a power adapter or computer system is possible and 10 hours of surfing the web on wifi and 9 hours using cellular data is possible.

As the iPad mini has updated compatibility with Apple Pencils, it has the added benefits of drawing and taking notes with easy taps on the display and magnetically attaches to the iPad. Apple Pencil Pro has updated features like squeeze to bring up the palette, barrel roll to adjust the pen and brush tools, haptic feedback to get instant precise feedback, pencil hover to improve precision, and double tap to switch between tools.

Many of the features are just as the previous iPads, but the new features make this new launch better than the iPhone series this year.

The starting price for the 128 GB iPad mini is $499 and will be available from Wednesday, October 23. The 256 GB costs $599 and the 512 GB costs $799. Pre-booking is open from Tuesday, October 15. The Apple Pencil Pro costs $129.
