The Home Space Apple Smart Display

With speculations of the tech giant Apple’s upcoming releases, a new innovative gadget is rumored to be launched by next year. According to a report published in Bloomberg, Apple is planning to introduce an Apple smart display device in March 2025. The company is said to be developing a wall-mounted device that can control applications, and make video conferences. And integrate AI as well to work effortlessly.

Major features of Apple Smart Display: the Smart Home Space

Features Of Apple Smart Display

Apple has already set its mark with Apple Intelligence’s various features in many of its flagship products. Which includes the latest iPhones and iPads. The upcoming home device will also be featuring Apple Intelligence with cutting-edge innovations. That suits the daily requirements of a home. The device may “look like a square iPad” with a six-inch screen. The size of two iPhones placed together, which is mounted into the walls as a home control system. The device has features similar to an iPad like a touchscreen display, a camera, a rechargeable battery, and internal speakers. Two color options will be available at the launch, black and silver.

The touchscreen display will act as a command center for the smart home. Apple Intelligence with Apple’s AI assistant Siri will also be available to work effortlessly with voice commands. The smart home space will have an interface that combines elements of watchOS. And the StandBy mode of iOS 17 which was launched last year, is probably a homeOS operating system. The device is also said to have a feature called App Intents. Which lets the voice assistant Siri control the software by voice.

Apple updated some features like the StandBy mode and Control Center in its iOS 18. Which can make controlling the home device easier for iPhones and iPads. The device will be able to run many of Apple’s apps including Safari, Notes, and Calendar. It will have a User Interface with customized screen features like special widgets like iPhones and iPads. Checking on the security footage, controlling lights at home, and setting music are some of the features envisioned on the device.

Apple’s further innovative approaches

Apple previously was reported to be working on a higher-end version of the smart home device. Which has a robotic limb that can rotate 360 degrees and acts as a “smart home command center”. However, the launch is only expected to be in 2026.

The Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman also reveals that Apple is working on an Operating System codenamed Pebble which has sensors with the ability to sense how close a user is to the device, show widgets on the home screen, has a dock for easy access to apps, and also gives security alerts.

Criticisms: Is it worth the hype?

Many tech enthusiasts are also of the opinion that the home device will act as a smaller iPad questioning the need for such a gadget, with features specially designed for house purposes. It is also criticized that Apple is aiming to place separate iPad-like gadgets in each room of the house to Facetime each other. Many similar gadgets with features stuffed in them are already available like the Amazon Echo Hub, and Nest Hub Max, Apple Home Control needs to bring something innovative to lead in the market. The usual playing music, controlling home devices with the help of the voice assistant, and checking on security footage won’t be enough to top the market.

However, user Interfaces of Apple like iOS, tvOS, and watchOS have previously been a proven strategy to bring unique features to the highly competitive tech world, and the home with the smart display can also be expected to bring something to the home control device. As Apple has already announced some of its cutting-edge features, the device is also likely to bring something new other than the speculative features and should be waited until next year for the official announcement and launch by the company.
