Autonomous vehicle technology startup Aurora Innovations will be supposedly pushing the dates of the commercial launching of their latest driverless trucks to the next year. Initially, the startup company planned to launch autonomous trucks towards the end of this year but now it has been reported that the commercial production will only begin from April 2025.
As put forward by the company, the dates have been pushed to next year to further evaluate and enhance the technology of the driverless trucks to ensure much safety. Pittsburg-based Aurora Innovation has been at the forefront of the world for starting the production of 20 autonomous or driverless trucks between the Dallas and Houston areas.
The announcement was very well received by the automotive industries as the startup company took a step toward making one of the future fantasies into a reality. The autonomous trucks were expected to provide improved speed for the smooth flow of goods and they nearly run around the clock without any breaks. These features were embedded to accelerate the delivery process and cut off the extra expenses.
Since the trucks do not stop for breaks, it is designed to drive at a consistent speed and they also help various industries to save a lot of money on fuel. When the truck is faced with some technical issues, it automatically pulls off itself to the safe side of the road.
Earlier this year, the company stated that they are expecting to produce thousands of self-driving trucks across the public freeways of the United States in three years. Chris Urmson, co-founder and CEO of Aurora Innovative has spoken to the media about the recent announcement regarding the delay in commercially launching the much-awaited Aurora Driver.
He stated that the approach toward a driverless truck that involves heavy technologies will have a major financial impact on the company. He also expressed his thoughts by responding that such a delay is necessary to ensure maximum capability and safety of the system.
The company has also noted some obstacles in some elements of surface street driving and necessary changes in the elements of construction that are crucial for the performance levels of autonomous vehicles.
As per the reports from the third quarter of the company, the autonomous trucks were able to deliver commercial loads without the human support system about 80 percent of the time, and compared to the last quarter it increased by 75 percent.
The major goal of the company is to make the Aurora Driver completely independent of human support before the commercial launch which is scheduled next spring. As stated by the CEO of Aurora Innovative, the company visions to produce over 10 driverless trucks for the commercial launching.
The vehicle technological company has already started testing commercial loads with potential clients like FedEx, Werner, Uber Freight, and many others to evaluate the final scores of the autonomous vehicle and further find any remaining obstacles.
Compared to the last volume, the company has managed to test commercial loads to over 160 each week. This has been a significant improvement in helping the company to reach its goals.
The commercial launching of the Aurora Driver is a much-awaited event and Aurora Innovations has been working passionately towards the production of their autonomous trucks. Aurora Drive is going to be a huge hit in the automotive industry and will supposedly open the early doors to future technologies.
As put forth by Aurora Innovatives and their fellow competitors, autonomous trucks will pose a major challenge to human-driven vehicles and they confirm the fact that the coming time will highly depend on these driverless trucks.
