Genai Is Overloaded With Data, Therefore Organizations Should Set Smaller Targets

GENAI

Recently in an exclusive interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, Chet Kapoor, CEO of DataStax had a graving discussion about the importance of data quality and the role it plays in generative AI. The discussion was joined by George Fraser, the CEO of Fivetran, and Vanessa Larco, a partner at a VC firm called NEA.

TechCrunch has always offered a great platform for upcoming entrepreneurs, investors, and tech enthusiasts to pitch in their innovative ideas and overall explore the ever-evolving world of technology from various other speakers.  In conversation with Chet Kapoor, the founder of one of the leading database platforms, he detailed his views on the new data pipeline that will supposedly play a major role in generative AI. The discussion focuses on the issue of generative AI suffering from data overload by various companies.  One of the most important factors that he highlighted was asking the companies to move at on slower pace with the progressing generative AI. Generative AI is an advanced form of technology that includes essential cybersecurity automation tools, image and text generators, and coding assistants. Companies have become instantly attracted to these factors and have already started embracing the dizzying world of generative AI. A report collected by Forrester claims that around 60 percent of generative AI systems will fully cover the technological arenas by simplifying overly complicated tasks. As technological fields heavily depend on computational requirements, the adoption of generative AI becomes a compulsory factor.

A recent study also shows that in the next five or ten years, generative AI will compel companies to expand the scale of data centers for their computing needs. In the present times, the data centers run by cloud service providers range from 50 megawatts to more than 200 megawatts. However, companies and industries should prepare themselves to explore data centers in the 1 gigawatt and much higher range for generative AI. Chet Kapoor further states that since AI and data go hand in hand, it is supposedly possible for the company to have a larger amount of data. He insists on the fact that the company should try focusing only on the necessary data required for the needs of their specific goal instead of overloading the generative AI. Vanessa Larco, who has previously worked with numerous startup ventures across the B2C and B2B spectrums, further supports his point stating that companies should try to follow a logical and pragmatic approach by focusing on a smaller specific goal that is required by them. They should find the accurate data and use them precisely to achieve their target.

Vanessa Larco also further states that the company may try to make a move of throwing their large data into the large language model (LLM) to achieve this purpose. However, according to Larco, such an action would create a potential inconvenience and mess for the overall process. She urges the companies to start small with their specific goals and then precisely select their data depending on the needs required to achieve the goal.  George Fraser, the CEO of one of the leading industries in the data movement, led the exclusive discussion by responding that the companies should rather put their complete focus on the issue they are facing in the current times.

The exclusive interview focused on a very important topic concerning the many companies that have heavily invested in the technologies of generative AI for data collection. Summarizing the interview, Chet Kapoor highlights the fact that this might be the Angry Birds period for generative AI technologies. He believes that by the next year, we can expect huge transformations to take place where we can see people coming up with such applications that will completely change the course of the company they are working for.
