Google Moves Gemini AI App Team To DeepMind For Strategic Focus

The speed at which the world is changing and evolving is insane. A few years ago, AI was just a part of science fiction and stories. However, now AI has become an inseparable part of most people. With several GPTs and other AI concepts, artificial intelligence, and the world are evolving every second. However, the most popular name among these has been Gemini. Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI technology has redefined people’s perspective of interacting with machines and technology. The unique features of this AI technology including the ability to understand and interact in natural languages and provide personalized results have helped enhance multiple sectors including healthcare and customer relationships. Furthermore, Gemini by Google is one of the most updated AI technologies that has undergone various positive changes in a short span of time. According to the latest news, Google came up with a new update on the advancement of Gemini on Thursday.

The announcement said that the team behind the Gemini app will be moved to DeepMind. Gemini was developed by Google’s artificial intelligence research lab, DeepMind. However, the Gemini app, the direct consumer interface of all Gemini models was led by Sissie Hsiao. According to Alphabet’s Google, this team will move with the team of DeepMind which worked under the leadership of its CEO Demis Hassabis so that they can better shape and streamline its structure and functioning in the competitive race of generative AI. According to Sundar Pichai, this shift will help improve feedback loops and improve the fast deployment of new models in the Gemini app. Google also focuses on effectively proceeding with the post-training work and enhancing the momentum of products with this shift. 

DeepMind For Strategic Focus

The announcement regarding this new change was made to the public through Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s public post. He shared that the past few weeks were exciting for all of Google’s AI products as NotebookLM with Audio Overviews went viral and AI could help doctors detect diabetic retinopathy. With such big milestones, Sundar Pichai and his team decided to revamp their structure to make significant progress in AI technology. He shared that the Gemini app team will join the DeepMind along with Prabhakar Raghav, who has been leading multiple teams for over 12 years returning to his computer science roots. 

Pichai shared that these shifts, especially Prabhakar with him in the role of Chief Technologist of Google will lead to a giant leap in Google’s tech excellence and culture. In his new role, Prabhakar will lead multiple Google products including search, ads, and commerce. As he moves to a new role, his former role as the lead of the Knowledge and information team will be carried forward by Nick Fox. Nick has been leading Google’s AI product roadmap for the past few years. Pichai noted that Nick has been an integral part of nearly every facet of K&I, including product and design in search and assistant, shopping, payments, and travel. He believes that Nick’s previous experience in ads and consumer products will help him enhance his new position. As Pichai concluded the post, he congratulated Nick and expressed his heartfelt thanks to Prabhakar for his leadership, all through these years.
