Google Pixel, as many might know is a mobile brand owned by Google that is run by the Android operating system. Smartphones by this brand were first released in October 2016 as a replacement for the older Nexus. The current models of Pixel are Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pro XL. Now, Pixel also has its own laptops, computers, and other accessories.
Coming to refurbished models of Pixel, first, a user has to understand that refurbished models are pre-owned devices that have been restored to their original condition with brand-new counterparts. Therefore, when sold, these devices will be sold at a lower price. This is far different than buying old phones as these would be sold at a lower price due to their wear and tear.
Refurbished models are now being sold at Google stores as well breaking myths about these models being cracked. Google says that each refurbished model that is sold in their store is carefully inspected to ensure that the phones, screens, and batteries are all in good condition. However. A company representative offered no guarantees regarding the battery life as he says it drains after a point of time.
The main highlight of the refurbished models is the pricing. The price difference between the fresh and the refurbished model could go up to $200 making buyers question their choices as the features are no different and the only difference may be with the battery life.
Apart from the Google store, several other sellers also have been selling Pixel phones. Therefore, there are a few things buyers have to keep in mind before making the purchase.
- It is important to know the seller while buying the phone. It is best to know if the buyer is a reputed person who has a good record for selling phones that are refurbished and other gadgets.
- Battery life is the first and foremost thing that has to be checked and rechecked when considering buying a refurbished phone. If the battery percentage does not go beyond 80%, it is best not to buy the phone.
- Checking the warranty of the phone is another factor to look out for so that it covers any defects or malfunctions in the future. A warranty, in this case, is an assurance that the phone has been restored to its original condition. If the deal with the seller does not come with a warranty, it is best to break it.
- Purchasing a refurbished phone online could be tricky as the buyer has to look for photos of the phone from all angles to ensure there are no scratches, visible damages, or other dents. Buttons, cameras, and charging ports also have to be checked.
- Pricing, as I mentioned earlier is a huge difference in refurbished phones, but if the price range is too close to the actual price, it is best to break the deal as it will not be actually worth that much.
There are many people who comment on buying refurbished phones as a bad thing but it actually saves the user a lot of money all while having the same phone with the same set of features. The only factors to consider while buying these phones are as mentioned.
The aim of Google promoting refurbished phones is to reduce electronic waste and maintain the sustainability in the environment. If you ask me, who would not like the same phone for half the price and the same features all while you can use the device as good as new?
