Huawei has finally released the most awaited Triple Fold, Mate X. This device has tons of new features and has a cool design on the outside, showcasing two hinges to fit the two folding displays and the highlight. It just weighs 298 grams!
Talking about its features, it has a 6-inch single screen when folded, followed by a 7.9-inch dual display, and when all three screens appear, it has a 10.2-inch tablet screen with a 3K resolution. The company has yet to reveal its chipset details, but it could be a Kirin SoC. In terms of its cameras, this model features a 50MP primary camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 12 MP periscope telephoto sensor with a 5.5X zoom and OIS.
Battery-wise, the phone packs a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It has a lot of variants in terms of connectivity as well, including NFC, USB 3.1 type C, etc. In terms of the most talked-about physical feature of the phone, the screen is made of a multi-directional bending flexible material. The bending resistance of this phone is shown to have increased by 25% compared to other foldables.
Although the features are crisp and the screen is “supposedly” great! Things became different as soon as they were released in real time. Many buyers claimed that the screen had a black line even before a day of usage. Critics were quick to complain about how fragile the screen is and that it probably can’t even afford to have a screen guard on top.
Many video creators have shown how the screen had black lines and some even had the screen in the middle fully damaged. For a price that high, buyers claimed it was such a waste of money. Even business owners who pre-ordered it were initially excited to use it as a tablet, and even as a laptop in case of emergencies had complaints regarding the screen as one of those people had issues with the screen just after the welcome page popped up.
Social media users commented on how useless the three screens actually are arguing, that if people want a big screen, they could as well afford a TV at the same cost. The user added how unnecessary three screens are, even two screens as most common people only use screens for scrolling through the internet and perhaps, sending some e-mails, all other work is mainly done on laptops, making this purchase totally unnecessary.
Many creators were quick to buy and make videos on it too, just to find its screen so fragile that it can’t even handle its own folds. One creator showed how slightly they folded the screen and the liquid crystal started leaking. Another user unboxed the phone, and the first look at the phone had creases on the screen in the fold region even before switching it on.
Other users also commented how the only people that would buy such a phone would probably be the ones with “too much money and too little sense”. The quality control of the phone is just so low that even if you use the phone a couple of times and if you drop it accidentally if the screen does not face an issue, something inside will surely break as the phone is too thin to have such a fragile core. Repairing such a phone would just be a waste at that point, and I feel like Huawei could have used a little more time to release it, because why release the phone if it was in such a condition?
