  • Step 5: In the dialogue box, select either the Pop3 or Gmailify option. Pop3 only allows you to import your old and new mail. Whereas Gmailify allows sending emails to your old address as well as the current Gmail address. 
  • Step 6: Type your password and check the boxes below, according to your preferences. Google recommends users check the below options:
    • Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail
    • Label incoming messages 
    • Leave the other boxes unchecked
  • Finally, click Add Account to complete the process.

Import Emails to Gmail on Android and iOS

You can access all emails from the Gmail application on your phone by adding an old account to the app. Here is how you can do it: 

  1. Open the Gmail application
  2. In the application, you will see a profile picture in the top left corner. Tap on it to see the menu. 
  3. Tap on Add another account. 
  4. Select the type of account you want to add:
    1. Google for @gmail
    2. iCloud for iCloud mail, @me.com, @mac.com 
    3. You may also select Outlook, Hotmail, or Live

“Server denied POP3 access”

  • If you have set a 2-step verification, entering a new app password may resolve the issue
  • Users who are accessing work or school accounts may need to enter mail.domain.com and then select Port 110 in the “Pop Server” to resolve the issue. 
  • See if your work or school account uses Google MX records, if yes: in the “Pop Server” section, type in pop.gmail.com and select Port 995.

Other errors

  • In case the POP is disabled, go to the settings of your old mail account and enable pop. 
  • If pop is unavailable or your email provider does not support POP, import only the old messages and then set the auto-forward option to route the new messages from the old email account to Gmail. The steps for importing old messages are given below. 

Import Only Old Emails to Gmail

If you just want to access your old emails from Gmail, without completely transferring the account to Gmail, you can do so by the below instructions: 

  1. Open your Gmail account on the application.
  2. You will find the settings in the top right corner. Click on it and select all settings. 
  3. Click Accounts and Import or Accounts  > import mail and contacts.
  4. Gmail will give you specific instructions depending on your selection, follow them, and finally clock on “Start import”. 

By importing only the old emails, you can completely switch to your new Gmail account without losing your previous conversations. The Gmail application will forward new messages received on the old account for 30 days, meanwhile, you can inform your peers about the new Gmail account and completely switch your conversations to the new account.
