IOWA Driver’s Licenses And State IDs Added To Apple Wallet

iPhone Driver's License Support Expands to Iowa

IOWA is a state located in the upper Midwest region of the United States. It is bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri River to the west, making it unique as it has two major rivers defining its borders. IOWA driver’s license, just like all other licenses has certain criteria of age, learner’s permit, tests, and other fees.

As reported by the Iowa Department of Transportation on Wednesday, Iowans can now secure their license and other state IDs in the Apple wallet. This will allow iPhone and Apple Watch users to save their identification digitally and make it hassle-free when asked for an ID.

The Apple Wallet is a digital wallet developed by Apple Inc. This application allows users to store wallet passes like coupons, business credentials, report passes, debit cards, and credit cards via Apple Pay.

The main benefit of this will be not having to take out physical cards during TSA checkpoints and other businesses and venues using the Apple Wallet app. This will, in turn, help businesses secure their IDs in the Apple Wallet using iOS apps like VeriScan, Tap2iD Mobile, and Mobile ID to verify a citizen’s age.

How To Do It?

In order to add a license to the Apple Wallet, tap the (+) button at the top of the screen in the iPhone app and then select ‘Driver’s License or State ID’, and follow the instructions mentioned thereon.

Once the ID is added to the app, the information is encrypted on the device.

When adding any ID to the Apple Wallet, the Iowa Department of Transportation receives information on whether to deny or approve the request.

Users could select the ‘Verify with Apple Wallet’ or ‘Continue with Apple Wallet’ button to present an ID in the Apple Wallet in apps. After this is done, the party viewing this document can review the specific document that was requested. If the user wants to access the document, they have to authenticate via Face ID or Touch ID before the requested information is processed.

A word about DOT, the Iowa Department of Transportation is the organization in Iowa that is responsible for the organization, construction, and maintenance of the state’s rail, public transit, rail, and highway system. In all these sections, DOT is responsible for its construction, planning, building, and maintenance. The current head of DOT in Iowa is Scott Marler and Pete Buttigieg is the secretary of transportation.

If a person is concerned about DOT or Apple having your data, it is far from their reach and they will not be able to access any of the personal information of any iPhone user. However, this ID proof cannot be used in case you get pulled over by the police. This cannot be used when a person goes to vote either.

So, even though this app is safe with the digital lock enabling access to this information only when your face ID is here, a person will still have to carry a physical copy of their ID while driving. Other locations that accept these mobile IDs are expected to expand in the future.

Iowa driver’s license and other state IDs can also be added to the Samsung Wallet app on Samsung phones.
