Pad Mini 7 Supports Wireless Restoration from Other iOS Devices

iPhone expands its wireless restoration of devices. Earlier all iPhone 16 models featured a system allowing users to restore the device’s firmware from another iPad or iPhone wirelessly. Now Apple has made the feature also available in the newly launched iPad Mini 7.

Apple has been developing a system for a while that enables users to wirelessly restore device firmware. This system has already been implemented in Apple Watches, Apple TVs, and more recently in iPhones. With the launch of iOS 18 and iPhone 16 models, users are eagerly anticipating this feature.

Apple has further boosted excitement by announcing that the feature will also be available on the newly launched iPad Mini 7, adding to its latest update.

When the iPad Mini 7 enters recovery mode, users can initiate the firmware recovery process by simply placing it next to another iPad or iPhone. Many assumed that the feature comes with A18 chips (used in iPhone 16), however, the availability of the iPad Mini 7 eliminates these speculations as it is powered by A17 pro chips.

How to restore iPad Mini 7 firmware wirelessly?

When an iPad Mini 7 enters recovery mode, simply place another iPad Mini nearby to start the process. The second iPad will download the new iOS firmware and transfer it to the device requiring recovery.

The iPhone 16 models also use the same recovery process. While all devices running iOS 18 can recover and restore firmware on iPhone 16 models, wireless recovery is only possible between two iPhone 16 devices. However, this eliminates the hurdle of depending on a Mac or PC to retrieve the firmware. The iPhone 16 models include a separate partition that enables the recovery process, even if the primary iOS partition is non-functional.

Although the recovery system was recently introduced for iPhones (iPhone 16) and iPads (iPad Mini 7), it has already been available on Apple Watch since iOS 15.4 and WatchOS 8.5, as well as on Apple TV with iOS 17 and tvOS 17.

Features of iPad Mini 7

iPad Mini 7 was launched on October 15, 2024. The device offers more versatility and capability than ever before with an A17 pro chip, however, many claim the chip is a binned version of the iPhone 15 pro chip used to reduce the component cost.

The new version of iPad Mini was launched after a long three-year gap from its predecessor. External features are similar to the previous model with an 8.2 Liquid Retina display, but certain changes in hardware updates.

The exciting feature of Apple Mini is Apple Intelligence which understands personal context and delivers aid without compromising privacy standards. Apple claims the A17 pro chip offers an increased performance by 30% and 25% graphical improvements from the previous version. It offers a 2x faster neural engine than the previous iPad Mini version, with a faster GPU and CPU.

The support of Apple Pencil Pro indicates the capability of the new iPad Mini to bring new ways of creativity and productivity. The device comes in 4 different colors, Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray.

It has camera features similar to the earlier version however a shift from 2K to 4K happened.  A 22 MP ultra-wide front-facing camera with portrait support and a 12 MP wide back camera that supports Smart HD4 and detects and scans documents within the camera app with machine learning support.

The device is available in 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. It offers a full-day battery life of up to 10 hours. The Apple iPad 7 Mini is priced at $499 for a 128 GB WiFi model and $649 or higher for the cellular model with 256 GB or 512 GB.
