Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs MediaTek Dimensity 9400

The latest flagship chipset of MediaTek is gaining popularity among tech enthusiasts. Experts comment that smartphones will be taken to the next level with the introduction of MediaTek’s dimensity 9400 chipset. This latest chipset includes an advanced silicon fabrication process built on TSMC’s 3nm technology.

According to its manufacturers, dimensity 9400 is next-gen in all aspects. With all big core CPU, agentic AI, raytraced mobile graphics, foldable displays, and many more, dimensity is all set to offer an unmatchable user experience. However, with the reports on MediaTek’s new launch, users are in a quest to know how it outweighs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets.

Questions are arising on whether dimensity is more efficient than Snapdragon. Although released almost a year ago, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is still considered the most efficient chipset used for smartphones. With smartphone giants like Samsung Galaxy S24, OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14, and Xiaomi 14 Pro equipping Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, this chipset has been ruling the market since its launch.

Now, with the launch of MediaTek dimensity 9400, which is said to be launched in smartphones like the Vivo X200 series and Oppo Find X8 Pro, the need for comparative analysis, reviewing the various aspects of both density and Snapdragon chipsets is increasing.

Although, both the chipsets are identified as efficient and dimensity overruling Snapdragon in some features, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 still owns the upper hand in certain aspects. While experts praise the performance and processing power of dimensity, Snapdragon continues to excel in areas like gaming, multi-device support, and audio.

In terms of processing power, dimensity 9400 is said to have the upper hand. However, it has clear advantages in this as it was only announced when the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was released. However, dimensity 9400 confirms to bring back the “ALL-Big-Core” design. So, this chipset will offer a 35% boost in CPU performance and a 28% boost on the multi-core front. The GPU is also said to be 41% more effective when compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, dimensity’s features do not make the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 a slow processor.

Moving forward, the gaming experience offered by both the chipsets is top-notch. While Snapdragon has proven its effectiveness in supporting hardware-accelerated ray-tracing with global illumination and 240Hz display, MediaTek’s dimensity focuses on the MediaTek HyperEngine umbrella with Super Resolution that makes use of AI to escalate lower-resolution games. The PC-grade raytracing capabilities are also escalated with MediaTek’s Frame Rate Convertor.

Although both Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and dimensity 9400 have their on-device AI, experts note that dimensity has more beneficial AI features. While Snapdragon’s features support tasks like on-device image generation, faster responses of LLMs, and improved on-device translation capabilities, Dimensity 9400 focuses on enhanced features termed Agentic AI. It creates AI-generated agents that help manufacturers and developers.

While MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 overweighs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in various aspects, the Snapdragon has not failed in maintaining its upper hand in certain fields including ecosystem support and audio features.

The most attractive and popular feature of Qualcomm Snapdragon is its Snapdragon Seamless which enables its smartphones to work with other devices including laptops and tablets. With this feature, Snapdragon helps users drag and drop things from smartphones to other devices wirelessly.

Furthermore, this feature also helps earbuds switch between devices depending on the devices used by the users. Similar is the case of Snapdragon’s audio capabilities. Assembled under the Snapdragon Sound moniker, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ensures a far better audio experience when compared with MediaTek dimensity 9400.
