Oppo Introduces ColorOS 15

Oppo officially announced the new ColorOS 15 with enhanced AI features and a new User Interface this Thursday, October 17, at the Oppo Developer Conference (ODC) in Hangzhou, China. ColorOS 15 is based on the latest Android 15 OS. The new user interface has features similar to those of Apple’s iOS and looks highly inspired by Apple’s devices like the iPhone, especially the slides and animations and the AI assistant.

The UI would boost performance, improve the aesthetic experience, and have smoother animations as per the announcement, and will be available on various Oppo and OnePlus smartphones. It is also said to be super light and more comfortable. The first smartphones to pre-install this UI are the Oppo Find X8 series and the OnePlus 13.

A feature that has been prioritized is improving the smoothness, design, and visual effects added to the UI. They have updated the iconography, shadow elements, natural light, new features, and effects. The introduction of the parallel windowing feature enables opening multiple windows at a time and working on various tasks simultaneously. More consistent and improved animation features and sliding animations are smoother in third-party apps with the introduction of parallel animation features.

Oppo ColorOS 15

The officials at the ODC stated that ColorOS 15 offers ‘5 Zero’ standards, that is, zero stutters, zero frame drops, zero latency, and zero-touch interruptions. It also has a dual engine technology featuring both the Aurora Engine and Tidal Engine. This ensures a smoother performance and reduces lagging and less touch responses while multitasking, through the multi-threaded parallel processing. It will also ensure an 18% improvement in app responsiveness and 26% faster app installations. These technologies also let animations run parallel across apps.

The Tidal Engine has an in-house technology called the Full-Stack Algorithm Accelerator that optimizes Android resource management and increases the chipset-level command efficiency. This enhances the performance and reduces power consumption.

Oppo has also introduced an AI assistant, Super Xiaobu Assistant similar to Siri in the ColorOS 15 for a conversational experience with the devices using Natural Language Processing. The assistant is likely to be accessible only in China. They have also added AI features like Circle to Search, AI Super Pixel upscaling, AI de-glare, AI Blur, AI Voice Summary, AI Notes, and AI Translations for work, study, and improved picture quality. It also has Electronic Image Stabilization that works on Live Photos.

iOS has greatly influenced ColorOS 15 and features like the independent notification tray, where there is a separate notification panel for app-based notifications and a center tray for quick notifications. ColorOS now has wireless sharing similar to Airdrop to share images, videos, and documents even with iPhones. It also has the Dynamic Island feature that displays content running in the background. Lock Screen customization is also possible with a lock screen theme library.

ColorOS 15 has improved performance and privacy features. Auto deletion of OTPs, improved app-access permissions, a built-in clipboard, and many more features have been updated to the new user interface.

Oppo clearly has got long vision for its upcoming smartphones and ColorOS 15.

ColorOS 15 will be available on the Oppo Find X7 series and Oppo Find N3 series from November 2024, and Oppo Find N2, Oppo Find X6, Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G, Pad 2, and K12 series from December 2024; Oppo Find N2 Flip, Find X5, Find X5 Pro, Reno 12 5G, Oppo Reno 11 Series, Reno 10 Pro series from January 2025, Oppo Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition, Reno 9 Pro + 5G, Reno 10 5G, K11 series from February 2025, and Oppo Reno 9 Pro 5G, Reno 9 5G, and Reno 8 Pro + from March 2025.
