Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 8 Elite With Oryon CPU

The recent Snapdragon summit witnessed the iconic declaration by Qualcomm Technologies. The American chipmaker Qualcomm officially declared they are all set to launch their Snapdragon 8 Elite. This System-on-Chip (SoC) in most of the premium smartphones. The new chipset that proceeds from last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be titled “Elite” in Qualcomm’s PC chips. 

It will be titled so due to its highly efficient features and premium services. According to official declarations, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will include an Oryon CPU, making it a milestone for Qualcomm. Based on the current reports, OEMs and smartphone brands including HONOR, ASUS, iQOO, Samsung, Vivo, Realme, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi will be launching the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. However, some other reports note that the chipset will be first launched in the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. 

As known by the majority, Qualcomm is an established chipset maker that has helped the world tackle some major challenges in the technology industry. They have contributed proven solutions for major industries and their Snapdragon has already proven its efficiency in offering highly positive customer experiences. 

In the latest announcement, Qualcomm has made it clear that along with the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will include a Qualcomm Adreno GPU and improved Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. All these features are believed to enhance the overall performance of the devices.

The latest version of Snapdragon also introduces advanced on-device multi-modal generative AI applications available on all devices, escalating the AI experience of the users. Furthermore, these technologies will also back multiple other features like camera quality by introducing AI-ISP, gaming experience, and super-fast charging. 

At the Snapdragon summit, the senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets, at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Chris Pattrik, shared his excitement in this groundbreaking movement. He noted that the company is excited to introduce Qualcomm Oryon to its new Snapdragon mobile platforms.

He added that they have already debuted these features in PCs, which gained largely positive reviews as they offered unparalleled battery backup. Chris shares that the introduction of this Qualcomm Oryon CPU in their flagship Mobile Platform is a major leap and expects to enhance customer experience. Furthermore, the multi-modal generative AI enables speech, context, and images enhancing the overall experience. 

Snapdragon 8 Elite Features And Specifications 

Artificial Intelligence

The Qualcomm AI Engine includes Qualcomm Adreno GPU, Qualcomm Oryon CPU, and Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. All these features introduce AI-accelerated architecture to this Snapdragon version. They also accelerated hexagon scalar, vector, and tensor. The hexagon direct link, micro tile inference, large shared memory concurrency support, and upgraded power delivery system are other features offered by them. Furthermore, dual Micro NPUs for audio and sensors improve these experiences. The Qualcomm AI also supports INT4 precision.

Camera 

The Qualcomm Spectra ISP highlights AI ISP technology with triple 18-bit ISPs. They support improved real-time photo and video semantic segmentation. The hardware acceleration for the iToF depth sensor will also be provided with an engine for visual analytics. Advanced HDR formats include HDR, DCG+VS, DCG, Staggered, QDOL, Less Blanking, and Multifrane HDR. The camera capabilities of Snapdragon 8 Elite also include AI-based enhancements like face detection, autofocus, auto-white balance, and auto exposure.

Modern RF system

Snapdragon X80 5G Modern RF system is included in Snapdragon 8 Elite. The version that includes 5G advanced-ready, 5G mm-wave and sub-6 GHz, 5G standalone and non-standalone modes, the downlink and uplink are up to 10Gbps and 3.5Gbps respectively. 

Similar is the case of almost all the other features of the latest version of Snapdragon, including Bluetooth and WiFi, display, audio, visual subsystem, security, and more. All of them have been identified to provide top-notch quality and user experience.
