By Mark McDonnell

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 vs. Galaxy Watch 6

Is the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 the same as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 with just a few dollars higher? Samsung apparently has a lot to say about its differences and new features 7 has that the older versions do not.

Features Of Galaxy 7 Watch (40mm &44mm)

  • The display of the Galaxy 7 is 1.3 inch Super AMOLED, 432X432 resolution in the 40mm version, and the same features with a 480X480 resolution in its 44mm version.
  • The processor of this watch is Exynos W1000 and it has a RAM of 2GB.
  • The storage of this watch is 32 GB and the sizes of both versions are 40.4 X 40.4 x 9.7 mm and 44.4 X 44.4 X 9.7 mm in 40mm and 44mm versions respectively.
  • The weight of these watches is approximately 29g and 34g approximately.
  • The battery in a 40mm watch is 300mAh and 44m is 425mAh.
  • Both models are fast charging.
  • The 40mm model costs $299.
  • The 44mm model Samsung Galaxy 7 costs $329.

Although the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 tracks the same data as the Galaxy Watch 5 or 6, the bottom sensor has 13 LEDs for heart rate. This feature is said to give 94% accuracy during high-intensity workouts compared to other versions in the last generation.

Most smartwatches have red-green and infrared LEDs and now, Samsung brought a variety by introducing blue, yellow, violet, and UV LEDs.

Another new feature in this watch is the AGE metric but many claim that this feature isn’t as useful. A useful upgrade though, is the dual-band GPS which triangulates the user’s position from multiple satellite angles.

This watch has proven to be very accurate in its workout results and it is being affordable is a total win for Samsung and Android users.

When talking about the watch’s external features, the watch bands of these smartwatches also come with options to choose from. It comes in Sports, Fabric, and athleisure options. Samsung also launched a trade-in option where the users could get a second band for free when they give their first, but reports say that this offer will end soon.

Similarities And Differences In Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 & 6

Samsung Galaxy 6 owners may argue that there is not much of an upgrade from their model but Samsung has revamped the Galaxy Watch 7’s central processing unit, storage, GPS, and other sensors.

Similarities:

  • The memory in Galaxy 6 is 2 GB.
  • The battery capacity in 6 & 7 is 300/425 mAh.
  • The health sensors are similar.
  • Both watches can be connected by Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi, and optional LTE.
  • These watches are both protected by Sapphire Glass.

Differences:

  • Galaxy 7 delivers more accurate heart rate and GPS results.
  • The processor in both watches is Exynos W1000 and for Galaxy 6, the processor is only Exynos W930.
  • The Galaxy 7 could last for two days without charge with no GPS or workout or about 33-36 hours with GPS and workout whereas the Galaxy 6 could only last 40 hours.
  • The Galaxy 7 launches Wear OS 5 and One UI6 skin and more software updates through summer 2028 but Galaxy 6 still has not received any new features.
  • Even though both watches weigh almost the same, the newer watch is 0.7 thicker without the sensor array.

Smartwatches by Samsung are a go-to watch recommendation for any Android user and we all know why by now.
