Samsung Expected to Launch Tri-Fold Galaxy Smartphone by 2025

Amidst the rising popularity of Huawei’s trifold, Samsung is all set to launch its trifold Galaxy smartphone by 2025. This launch could help Samsung mitigate the weaker sales of  Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The South Korean tech giant, Samsung is planning to release its trifold Galaxy Smartphone by early 2025. The announcement aims to build competition against Huawei, who already launched the world’s first trifold smartphone in China and planning for a global release later. Other leading smartphone manufacturers including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor are also on their path to launching tri-folds sooner.

According to reports Samsung has already completed the development of the product and executed commercialization plans, however, the decision to launch is under consideration by the head of the Samsung Electronics MX sector. Apart from the trifold model, an entry-level clamshell-style foldable phone is also set to launch by 2025.

It’s not the first time Samsung has planned a trifold phone, it started back in March 2023. The company was aiming to pause the launch of Galaxy S23 to open a room for a trifold, however, the phone was later launched in October 2023, indicating an extended launch of Samsung tri-folds.

Since Samsung is facing a deterioration in sales of their latest foldable models, Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 6, reducing the OLED display orders compared to last year by 10%, making the surveillance of the yet-to-launch trifold mandatory. Samsung has reduced rolling production as a result of declining sales.

Though along with Samsung,  many other companies are planning a launch of a trifold by next year, Huawei beats every other by launching their trifold, Mate XT Ultimate Edition. The launch was made on 12 October in China. The phone features the world’s thinnest battery with a 5600mAh silicon bar.

The smartphone can be converted into a tablet with a 10.2-inch display when completely unfolded. The cutting-edge technology and non-Newtonian fluid mechanism add beauty to the design of the device. The core component used in the composition is steel, eliminating the chances of deformation of the inward and outward hinges on continuous opening and closing.

The camera features include a 50 MP primary rear camera, a 12 MP telephoto lens, and a 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens along with an 8 MP front camera. The AI assistance, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6, and USB 3.1 port C are the other highlighting features of the Mate XT Ultimate Edition.

Developed with foreseeing a range of customers, the Huawei trifold has already gained interest from over 3 million customers worldwide. The starting price of the product is $2809 or 1899 Yuan and increases up to $3371 or 23999 Yuan (for a 1 TB model). Right now, the device is available only for Chinese customers however a global launch is expected by the end of 2025.

Samsung’s new trifold should offer competitive features to Huawei’s Mate XT Ultra Edition to gain customer attraction, this can be equally challenging yet promising. The features offered and the price at which the device becomes accessible determine the establishment and popularity of the new Samsung trifold launch in the market.

The launch of Samsung’s trifold allows worldwide access to tri-folds since  Huawei’s Mate XT Ultra Edition is only available in China. Though not much was revealed regarding the specifications of the device, it won’t be much different from Huawei’s trifold.

Samsung may use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite which could improve the device performance by 35% compared to the Snapdragon Gen 3 used in Galaxy Z Fold 6. Apart from that a new hinge design and an enhanced sensor integration can be expected.
