Samsung unveils Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition was finally announced today in South Korea after months of news and rumors surrounding it. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, which was only launched months ago claimed to not be the best in the latest technology and innovation as many Chinese brands have better versions of the foldable smartphones. Since then the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has been very much anticipated by tech enthusiasts for the technology Samsung will have to offer.

Samsung is flaunting the Galaxy Z Fold Special edition with better technology and design ever on foldable smartphones. It is only available in South Korea for now and will be available from October 25. The phone is also rumored to be released soon in China as Samsung W25 but uncertain about its availability in the rest of the world.

The new model is said to be the thinnest foldable phone available with the biggest screens. It is only 10.6mm thick when folded and 4.9mm when unfolded. Even though the phone has wider screens than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, it only weighs 236g, 3g lighter.

The Special Edition has an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity Flex Display with QXGA+ resolution, a 20:18 aspect ratio, and HDR10+. It has a front screen with a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen on the front with a 21:9 aspect ratio and feels like a regular smartphone when closed.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition also has great camera quality with a 200MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10Mp telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, a 10MP external selfie camera, and a 4MP internal selfie camera. The camera quality is similar to the Galaxy S Ultra smartphones.

The phone can record 4K 60fps videos using its cameras except the internal selfie camera and 8K 30fps videos with its primary camera. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip, runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1, and will get seven years of Android OS updates, the latest security update released by Samsung.

The phone can be updated to Android 15 and One UI 7.0 by 2025. The special edition foldable phone has 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage as standard.

The battery used is 4,400mAh, the same used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The phone can be connected to GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, UWB, NFC, and USB TYPE-C port. This is the first foldable phone of Samsung that features Wi-Fi 7 for faster connectivity. It is launched only in one color option, Black Shadow. Its exterior is a blend of metal and glass, Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 respectively, with a striped pattern at the back.

The price in South Korea is 2,789,600 won, around $2,040 and costs 401,500 won more than the 12 GB RAM and 512 GB Galaxy Z Special Edition. It will be available in online stores like KT, U+, T Direct Shop, and Samsung’s online shop by October 25, 9 AM. The phone will be also available in South Korea’s mobile carriers, SK Telecom, KT Corporation, and LG U+.

The only storage capacity option given is 16GB RAM and 512GB, whereas Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers three storage options, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The GalaxyZ Fold Special Edition is more durable with an IP48 rating. It has a side-molded fingerprint reader and stereo speakers like the previous model foldable phone of Samsung.

The power consumption would have also improved with efficient improvements but it has the same features of 25W fast wired charging, 15W fast wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.

Samsung has not provided information on any other related features to the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. However, the given features are very promising and show that it is an improved version of the previously released Fold 6.
