By Mark McDonnell

Samsung Watch Won't Turn On After Getting Wet

In today’s digitized world, no gadget is built just to serve the purpose of the invention. As competitions are brimming every gadget is packed with impressive and newer features. As one of the top companies producing many high-end gadgets, Samsung hasn’t left the possibility of fitting everything into their smartwatches and not just knowing the time. They come with features like tracking activity, and heart rate, replying to emails, making calls, listening to music, and many more.

Gadgets getting wet and not properly working is not a new thing and many devices are built water-resistant. But water can be adamant and get inside these electronic devices spoiling the whole working mechanism. Every one of the gadgets is now digitalized and is prone to this damage and many companies do not include a guarantee or warranty for water damage. These watches are water resistant and not waterproof, so they can only resist minor water encounters.

Samsung watches also don’t cover accidental damage, scratches, damage caused by natural disasters, and water damage. If the watch got wet and still was working properly, then the water hadn’t reached within the device’s core. But if the watch stops working, or doesn’t turn on, water has likely reached the core of the watch.

High-end Samsung watches have swimming mode and water lock features. Make sure to only expose the watch to water while these functions are turned on. If water damage occurs even after enabling the features, there might be some system malfunction, so contact customer support immediately.

The first thing that anybody can do is dry the device with a dry towel and remove as every water content as possible. It is advised not to charge the device or try to turn it on while it is wet, as it can cause further damage. You can try keeping the watch in a dry place for a day on its own can also work sometimes, but do not attempt to dry it with heating appliances like a hair dryer.

Resetting the watch back to factory settings using the power button might work in turning the watch on. Trying to remove the battery can also reduce further damage.

Professionals advise people who are good with electronics to try disassembling the watch and drying each part. To reduce corrosion and water, using isopropyl alcohol 99%+ to clean the watch can also be helpful. Isopropyl alcohol 99%+ is available at electronic parts shops. But ensure that the amount of isopropyl alcohol is ideal for the device.

Be gentle with surface-mounted PCBs and electronic gadgets in general. Do not remove the components attached to the motherboard.

If any of these remedies or drying out on your own doesn’t work, reach out to Samsung customer support. They might ask you to take it to the repair center. Repair centers may cost some money, but won’t be as costly as buying a new watch.

The possible reasons for water damage are usually the device getting open to huge amounts of water. Probably falling into a water source or getting exposed to heavy rain for extended periods. Another reason is exposure to corrosive liquids like salt water. This can cause increased damage than plain water. Avoid making mistakes like blowing air into the device, which can make the water reach further inside the system.

Using a damaged charging port can also lead to moisture accumulation. Always follow the instructions mentioned in the manual. While drying the watch if possible turn off the water lock mode for proper drying. Only attempt to charge the phone when it is completely dry.

If the watch doesn’t work within 24 hours after water exposure, contact customer support or reach out to any professional repair center.
