Fixing issues with electronic devices might feel like a herculean task as the technology might seem complicated, and sometimes the settings of the device may also be hard to comprehend. Read the article to help yourself fix the split keyboard on your iPad.

Split Keyboard On The iPad

Use Dock And Merge Method To Fix Splitkeyboard On ipad.

The split keyboard is a feature available on some models of iPad and the feature divides the keyboard into two halves that can move up and down through the screen. The feature was introduced on iPads as the screens of iPads are larger compared to smartphones and some users would find it hard to type on the normal keyboard as short hands won’t be able to reach the middle of the screen from the sides holding the iPad.

The split keyboard feature can split the letter panel into two halves and move to the sides to enable typing with both hands from the sides of the iPad screen. The split keyboard feature is only available on iPad models that have a Home button. The issue that people face with this feature is that the mind is not able to comprehend the keyboard split in half on both sides and even the users are unable to figure out how the split keyboard feature was turned on. The feature might have turned on with some unintentional gestures like placing the finger on the middle of the keyboard and pushing towards the side of the screen.

How To Turn Off The Split Keyboard Feature On An iPad?

Turning off the split screen feature is pretty much easier as you accidentally turned it on. There are a couple of methods to turn the feature off. You can try out any of the following features to merge the keyboard.

  • Pulling together: The first method is to bring together the split-away keyboards easily by taking two fingers and dragging the sides of the keyboard together. Just pull the keyboard to merge them together.
  • Holding down: Another easy gesture to merge the split-away keyboard is to simply hold the keyboard button, which you can find at the lower right-hand corner of the keyboard, down for a couple of seconds. The keyboard will be automatically merged.
  • Dock and merge: Make the keyboard appear by using the text field on any app, and then touch and hold the keyboard button that can be found at the lower right-hand corner of the keyboard. Slide the finger up by holding on to the keyboard button up to either merge or dock and merge. Let’s go and you’ll find the keyboard back to the normal way.
  • Changing settings: If any of the gestures to merge the keyboard didn’t work, go to Settings on the iPad, select General, and then Keyboard. Turn off the split keyboard option.

Similar Features On iPad

If you want a smaller keyboard, you can turn on the floating keyboard feature. It is a similar feature to the split keyboard but can be a little bit less intriguing. By enabling the floating keyboard, a smaller keyboard will appear which can be dragged and placed anywhere on the screen. To turn on the feature, open an app that uses the iPadOS keyboard like Notes or Messages. And use two fingers to drag the keyboard inwards to make it smaller. The gesture is similar to zooming out on images. The keyboard can be moved by holding on to the grey line of the keyboard.

Apple introduced this feature as the iPad screen is larger than smartphones. And many users find it hard to type with both hands on large screens as previously mentioned. However, some people find it hard to turn this feature off once turned on intentionally or unintentionally. Turning the feature off is also pretty easy. Make a gesture as you zoom in to a picture by spreading two fingers placed on the keyboard apart to enlarge the keyboard back to its full size.
