Spotify Wrapped

Which are the Spotify Copycat Apps?

Spotify Wrapped has been around since 2016 and it is a yearly campaign that offers a personalized summary of the Spotify user’s listening habits over the past year. It includes the user’s top song choices, genres, artists, podcasts, and listening time. This feature is accessible through the Spotify app and allows users to share the Spotify Wrapped on social media platforms like Instagram. This campaign has been popular and evolved, with new added features every year. Spotify collects user data from January 1 to December of the year.

When certain apps overwhelm you with information about your year in music, books, food, or language learning, it can be because they are trying to emulate Spotify’s marketing strategies, such as Spotify Wrapped. Spotify Wrapped wasn’t popular until 2019 after the company introduced the sharing feature.

However, that same year, other apps like Apple Music, PlayStation, and Duolingo launched their Replay and sending email features but failed to be as popular as Spotify. It seems that almost every app is launching its features that mimic Spotify Wrapped.

Here are some of the common Spotify copycat apps;

Apple Music

Unlike Spotify, in Apple Music, users need not wait for a year, as they can access the Apple Music Replay site and see monthly music information from their account. However, to access this feature, you should be an Apple Music subscriber, and users can see information like minutes listened to top artists and songs. It also lets us see music milestones and at the end of the year, a year-end Replay feature provides a summary of stats and information along with a yearly highlight reel and an audio-visual recap of the songs users have listened to.

Apple Music also lets users share this yearly recap on social media platforms. It also has launched a monthly version of Replay, where users can see the summary of top songs, artists, genres, playlists, play counts, and more every month. However, this feature is only available to paid subscribers of Apple’s Replay website.

YouTube Music

YouTube Music offers a Recap feature that provides a personalized and interactive experience regarding the songs, top five artists, albums, genres, and playlists. It also provides information on the longest listening streak and the minutes spent on listening over a year. This feature is easy to access as users can tap on the profile avatar on the top right corner where the “Your Recap” option will appear. What is best about this feature and app is that it is compatible with both Android and iOS.

Amazon Music

Even though Amazon Music is not as advanced as Spotify and Apple, it still provides a My Year In Review, which provides information on the 50 to 100 songs one enjoyed the most during the year and is accessible on the Playlists present on the app or online.

Its feature is limited to just showing the most played songs and there are no other static shown. It also does not provide sharable insights.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a language-learning app that mimics Spotify’s Wrapped features apart from other music streaming platforms. Duolingo provides a Year in Review feature and the users can access it easily by opening the app and selecting ‘See the Year in Review’. This feature provides a 10-page summary of how many lessons of a language one has completed, minutes spent in learning, experience earned, and the longest streak. It also informs the users regarding their rank compared to other Duolingo users.

Deezer

Deezer is a popular music streaming app that mimics Spotify’s Wrapped feature. It offers a yearly review called ‘My Deezer Year’, which summarizes the user’s music consumption over the year, including most listened to albums, top songs, favorite artists, and genres.

Unlike Spotify, Deezer stands out because it provides a feature where are provided with options to be ‘roasted’ or ‘hyped up’ based on the music preference, and it also has a quiz to test how well the friends and family know the user’s music taste.

Reddit

The Reddit app allows users to explore all activities on the social network, such as what communities were joined, favorite topics, popular enjoyed posts, and more. Like Spotify Wrapped, Redding allows users to see highlight recaps although from different communities, too. This feature enables users to understand and examine their yearly engagement on the platform as it provides a detailed breakdown of posts with total upvotes and devotes received.

It also showcases the awards earned throughout the year while displaying the total amount of time spent using the platform.

Netflix Wrapped

Even though Netflix does not offer the Spotify Wrapped feature, a video editing company known as Kapwing, developed a tool that provides users with interesting statistics about individual subscribers. It offers viewing data about the insights like the subscriber’s total watch time and ‘most bingeful day’. To use this tool, import the Netflix viewing history and you will receive plenty of insights, such as the top watched shows and movies, significant binges, most-watched movie actor, and more.

Conclusion

Spotify has evolved over the years and it never fails to impress its users with features. However, its Spotify Wrapped feature has been around since the year 2016 but was not so popular at the time. With the launch of their sharing feature, it got so popular that it allowed users to share their yearly recap on social media platforms. Spotify Wrapped provides a personalized summary of users’ listening habits over the past year. It allows users to see their top song choices, genres, artists, podcasts, and listening time.

You may notice that apart from Spotify, other apps also mimic this feature but are not as popular as Spotify. Some such copycat apps include Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Duolingo, Deezer, Reddit, and Netflix Wrapped. All these apps provide information regarding various aspects over the year and share on the social media platform but none of them are as successful as the Spotify Wrapped feature.
