Tesla Robotaxi Event

Autonomous Vehicles have been here for a couple of years now. While Tesla wasn’t necessarily the first to crack it, they were the first to popularise assisted driving. The same Tesla owned by Elon Musk has been teasing spectators and car enthusiasts with their self-driving Robotaxi called a Cybercab. And the day is finally here.

Although the unveiling of Cybercab was first planned to be happening in 2019, it took a long time till we got to the actual unveiling event. Finally, the day is here. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla will reveal his plans for the Cybercab on Thursday (October 10, 2024). Let’s see what you can expect to see from the unveiling event happening today at the event titled “We, Robot”.

Tesla Robotoxi Event Date and Place

WE ROBOT Tesla Robotaxi Event

The Tesla Robotaxi event is a much-anticipated event from Tesla, car manufacturers. It is rumored that the Tesla CEO, Elon Musk will unveil the prototype of the Robotaxi from Tesla called the Cybercar at the event. The unveiling event has been rescheduled several times in the past.

But with just hours ahead of schedule, we can be somewhat confident that it won’t be postponed again. The unveiling is supposed to happen at the Warner Bros Hollywood studio in Burbank California on October 10, 2024. The event is scheduled to take place at 8 PM EST.

What to Expect from the Robotaxi Event?

The Waymo self-driving taxi, from Google, has already taken off. So, Tesla would need to give a promising unveiling and demonstration of their robocar in this upcoming event to satisfy their stockholders.

According to rumors in addition to unveiling a prototype, Tesla may also announce their partnership with other ridesharing companies such as Uber, or food delivery services for McDonald’s. If Caught on, Tesla Robocars has the potential to become the leading player in the driverless cabs industry.

The Cybercab Prototype

Although we need to wait for the official announcement, the Tesla Robotaxi is often referred to as the Cybercab by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The concept was first announced in November 2019. We can almost confirm that self-driving cars will have the same design as last year. The design resembled the pointy edges of a cyber truck with a shiny silver color.

Originally, the Cybercab is conceptualized without steering wheels or pedals. Although this design has gotten a lot of criticism from engineers and law enforcement agencies, the Cybercab prototype will not be any different. This red tape from law enforcement agencies has been one of the major things that led to the postponement of the development of Cybercab.

Why Warner Bros Hollywood Studios?

Usually, Tesla hosts events at their facilities. So, the choice of going with the Hollywood Studios may seem out of place for some people. But multiple reasons make the chosen venue a better choice. For starters, the venue is bing so more people can attend the event.

Secondly, what better place to unveil a futuristic driverless vehicle – straight out of fiction, than the movie production studio that has been creating some of the most notable fictional characters including Batman? Moreover, the controlled environment of the studio can help the event organizers do a demo run of the autonomous Cybercab at low speed.

Other Product Announcements

The unveiling of the Tesla cyber cab’s prototype is the crucial thing that the fans are looking forward to in the upcoming event called “We Robot”. However, analyzers speculate that there are more things behind the curtains waiting to be unveiled. Many people speculate Tesla may unveil their humanoid robot at the “We Robot” event.

One of the major causes of this speculation is the name of the event itself. People believe that the name “We Robot” is a play on Isaac Asimov’s series of stories called “I, Robot”, which has been adapted into a Hollywood movie of the same name, starring Will Smith. I Robot explores the relationship between humanoid robots and humans and how both can co-exist. You can see the parallels, right?

However, it could also be a reference to the laws of robotics mentioned in I Robot, which states that Robots should always prioritize the safety of humans, which goes along with the safety standards of the driverless cab from Tesla.

Some also speculate that Tesla may reveal the plan for the next EV in the pipeline, which the fans have already named “Model 2”. But it is highly unlikely that we will see a prototype of the project this soon. You may also expect Tesla to provide more details about the development of a fully autonomous passenger van called Cyber Van, that can revolutionize public transportation.

What Not to Expect from “We Robot”?

There is very high attention to Elon Musk’s vision for building an autonomous future with a range of products. One of the major hopes of Musk was that the autonomous vehicle industry could make cabs cheaper by removing the need for people to own a car.

While this vision boasts a greener and more hopeful future, there is a long road to achieving this. So, you might have to wait longer to get a clear-cut idea of what Tesla and Elon Musk will be planning for the future. It would also take more time to produce the commercial mass of cybercabs.
