Google has introduced a new feature for iOS users called ‘Page Annotations’ in the Google App. This feature is live in the Google app for all iOS users. With the help of ‘Page Annotations’. Google is now able to insert its links in the Google Search result cards into third-party websites. Google aims to pull users away from those independent websites and organize ways to attract them back to Google.
‘Page Annotations’: a new feature for iOS users
Google is always known for its innovations and technological adaptations in the technological era. Each year, they are implementing different varieties of advanced features and tools. An exclusive feature named ‘Page Annotations’ is now available for all iOS users. That can reshape the browsing experience of iOS users in Google App.
Google can now insert or inject their links into third-party websites. Which can lure the users back to the Google app. It is like giving an unknown compulsion to the users to navigate back into Google’s search application. According to the information available from company resources, this feature can act as a multifunctional app hosting Google Search. ‘Page Annotations’ can inject Google Search results into the third-party website’s plain text as well.
Working Of Page Annotations
As per the blog post that appeared on the Google community content section, Google explained the ‘Page Annotations’ features and how it works. The blog post started by addressing the search community. According to the blog post, Google introduced this feature to provide additional information about the topics that users are interested in. The working principle of this feature is, that Google will extract the search information from the ‘Google Knowledge Graph’. And produce it in a highlighted manner.
The users will navigate to the Google Search app tray once they click on the highlighted portions. This feature will help users get additional information regarding their respective searches just by clicking on a highlighted text or entity. The users will be able to close the app tray if they don’t need the specific information at that time. Users can easily swipe and close the app tray, and once they close the app tray. They will be redirected to that specific third-party website that they were using before opening the app tray.
Here is a glimpse from Google’s blog post that explains how ‘Page Annotations’ work,
“We’ve introduced a new way to get additional information about the topics you’re interested in on the Google app when using an iOS device. Now, we’ll extract interesting information from Google Knowledge Graph entities and highlight them in line”.

Google’s ‘Page Annotations’: A Psychological Trap to Lure the Users Back to the Google Search App?
The latest feature designed for iOS users may feel like an organized trap or bait from Google to attract the users back to its Search app. According to the feature, the link from Google will not be directly visible on the third-party website. It will be hidden under a highlighted entity, so the users will click it with curiosity and navigate to the additional information provided by the Google Search app in the app tray. It is like Google is setting up a bait and waiting for the users to come into their search app. Users who don’t feel comfortable with this feature can still opt out and they can manually search for additional information.
This feature will be helpful for those who require a lot of additional data and have no extra time to spare. This will make browsing and searching easier. People will get related information in no time. And they can save a huge amount of time with the help of this feature. For the time being, this feature is available to iOS users.
