Trump Announces Scott Bessent As Treasury Secretary

US President Donald Trump has made a statement by announcing his nominees to the public, a team consisting of highly esteemed individuals to the crucial positions in his government. To head the Treasury, he tapped international investor Scott Bessent. Lori Chavez DeRemer from Congress will head the Labor Department, while Dr. Jenette Nesheiwat will be the United States’ next surgeon general. These appointments were made on Friday, November 23, 2024, as Mr. Trump began assembling his leadership team.

Alex Wong has been appointed as the principal deputy national security advisor, and Dr. Sebastian Gorka has become the senior director for counterterrorism. There is a nomination for Dr. Dave Weldon, who is a former congressman and the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is Marty Makary, and Scott Turner is nominated as the housing and urban development secretary.

The role of the director of the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is taken by Russell Thurlow Vought. All of the roles will be taken charge by the 20th of January 2025, along with Donald Trump, who will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. All the appointments should be confirmed by the senator of the US.

Making sure that the United States leads the world in innovation and entrepreneurship and indeed, in economic might. He will make sure that the US dollar will continue to hold on as the world’s reserve currency.

Lori Chavez Deremer -Labor Secretary

In the same vein, he mentioned that Congresswoman Lori Chavez Deremer was able to unite the business and labor communities. Trump said her leadership at the Labor Department would unite Americans to serve an ambitious agenda focused on creating unparalleled national success. Trump said that Chavez DeRemer will make the US richer, wealthier, stronger, and more prosperous than ever before.

Dr. Nesheiwat – surgeon general

Trump also talks about the surgeon general nominee, Dr. Nesheiwat, who is an advocate with strong communication skills. Trump explains that the perspective of Dr. Nesheiwat is to empower individuals to take charge of their health by providing access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Alex Wong – Principal Deputy National Security Advisor 

On national security, Trump mentioned Alex Wong’s successes during his first term, including service as a deputy special representative for North Korea. Wong played a role in facilitating Trump’s historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and was instrumental in implementing the free and open Indo-Pacific strategy. Wong’s experience, said Trump, made him perfect to resume a key position in national security. 

Dr. Sebastian Gorks – deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism

He also welcomed Dr. Sebastian Gorks, the new deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism. Trump describes Gorka as a tireless supporter of the America First agenda and the MAGA movement while highlighting his contributions, making him a good strategist throughout Trump’s first term.

Dr. Dave Weldon-Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Trump sharply assailed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the overall federal health authorities, on his way toward health policy. He was accused of losing public trust through censorship, misinformation, and poor decision-making. His nominee, he said, is uniquely qualified to help rebuild the agency’s credibility and focus on disease prevention: Dr. Dave Weldon. He described Weldon as an extremely qualified physician, army veteran, and respected conservative leader who had fought for accountability in federal health policy and budgeting during his time in Congress. 

Dr. Marty Makary – FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Commissioner

Trump also pointed to the FDA as one area of concern, explaining that the agency has lost its way by losing its focus as a regulator. He introduced Dr. Marty Makary, a renowned Johns Hopkins surgical oncologist and health policy expert, as the right person to lead the FDA. Trump noted Makary’s pioneering work in public health and surgery. His advocacy for vulnerable populations, and his numerous accolades, including the Notability in Science award from the National Pancreas Foundation. 

Scott Turner – executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC)

Finally, Trump said he would nominate Scott Turner, a former NBA player who served as the first executive director of the White House Opportunity. And Revitalization Council (WHORC) in Trump’s first term, to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Calling Turner “a phenomenal leader,” Trump highlighted Turner’s work in transforming some of the most distressed communities in the country, saying he was confident Turner would take that mission “and keep on running” in his new role.
