Trump’s Wild Remarks on Breaking Up Google: What He Said Today

By Mark McDonnell

Trump Remarks

The rivalry and clash between former president Donald J. Trump and Google is not a new thing for the U.S. and the world. There have been constant arguments and comments about Google and its policies which sparked discussions all over the U.S. Recently, the presidential candidate Mr. Trump has responded to the talks on Google’s breaking down. Although he did not mention breaking down Google, Mr. Trump stated that he would “do something” about Google being a superpower, but refused to explain more.

A couple of days back, the Department of Justice declared an unlawful monopoly on Google and stated that they have plans to break up parts of Google and are thinking of limiting its powers. Donald Trump was asked to share his opinions on the same in a recent interview with Bloomberg. However, initially, Trump resisted commenting on Google but talked about another DOJ lawsuit against Virginia election officials. But, Bloomberg insisted Trump, mentioning that the question was precisely about Google.

Trump On Google

Later, Trump expressed how unhappy he was about the stories about him that appeared on Google. Although he did not answer whether or not to break up Google, Trump stated that he would do something about Google if he were to be elected as the new president. He shared more about Google’s stories about him. He said that Google only shared bad stories about him, which made him talk to the head of Google. Trump mentioned that he thinks it’s all part of a rigged deal. According to Trump’s comment, even if there were 20 good and 20 bad stories about him, Google had only those 20 bad stories. So, google being a powerful company, these stories get circulated to a larger audience, which affected him. However, he said that the head suggested that Trump was the No. 1 on all Google platforms. But Trump mentions that all of them are bad stories.

Even though Trump is not fond of Google, he stated that Google is a big power and that they should be given credit for it. However, he also noted that how it became such a power is what needs to be discussed the most. Without directly commenting on the necessity to break down Google, Mr. Trump said that the US needs more powerful companies and that they cannot be given to countries like China. He addressed China as a group of powerful and smart people. However, according to his personal experience, China is afraid of Google, which he considers an advantage. So, although unspecified, Donald Trump plans to do things to make Google “more fair” rather than breaking it down.

Apart from Google, Trump also addressed his stand on TikTok in this interview. Earlier, he was of the opinion of banning this app. However, now he suggests that everything is a threat in some way or the other way. So, according to Trump, the real deal lies in fighting through those threats. This is not the first time Donald Trump has come up with comments and controversies on Google and other social media platforms during this election period.
