Xiaomi officially launched the Xiaomi 15 Series, Xiaomi Pad 7, and Xiaomi HyperOS 2 at its October Launch event on Tuesday, 29 October in China. This is one of Xiaomi’s most important domestic launch events of the year as many of the awaited announcements are now official. The Snapdragon 8 Elite processor was only launched a few days prior and the Xiaomi 15 series of phones are the first to be produced with this SoC.
The Xiaomi 15 Series includes Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro, Xiaomi 15 Custom Edition, and Xiaomi 15 Limited Edition. Xiaomi this time has brought great features along with attractive designs and colors that suit the latest phone aesthetics.
Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the 21st of this month at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is claimed to be the world’s fastest mobile CPU. The smartphone chip is the second-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU.
Qualcomm claims that the chip is built to seamlessly handle multi-modal AI while prioritizing privacy. It was also said that this week will see many brands including Xiaomi, Samsung, RealMe, Vivo, OPPO, OnePlus, iQOO, ASUS, and Honor, launching devices that are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The custom CPU core, Qualcomm Oryon was first introduced into PCs through the Snapdragon X Elite earlier this year and now the second generation is introduced into smartphone platforms with the Snapdragon 8 Elite having an improved CPU performance of up to 40% and an increased power efficiency of 44%. Snapdragon 8 Elite also features Qualcomm Adreno GPU that offers an improved 40% CPU performance and power efficiency. Additionally, it offers a 27% increased SoC power savings.
The processor also gives an improved web browsing experience and extends wireless audio from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi. It uses generative AI to provide an artificial light source while taking selfies. The system-on-chip processor also supports great gaming features.
Xiaomi 15 has a large battery capacity of 5400mAh, increasing a 790mAh from the previous model. It has a silicon content of up to 6% and features an energy density of 850 Wh/L. The mobile weight has been reduced by 2g from the previous models of Xiaomi smartphones. It charges on a wired 90 W HyperCharge and 50 W Wireless HyperCharge. Xiaomi 15 has a quad-curve middle frame design with clean edges and a slight curve on the rear.
The display of the Xiaomi 15 is 6.36 inches with a narrow bezel of 1.38mm created with LIPO three-dimensional packaging technology. The brightness can be achieved up to 3200 nits and a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. It supports partitioned refreshing that can reduce power consumption. Xiaomi 15 features three Leica ultra-high-speed lenses, with the primary featuring a f/1.62 large aperture paired with a 1/1.31” Light Fusion 900 image sensor.
The telephoto lens uses a 28nm sensor with the popular floating lens design. It also allows both portraits and magical close-up shots. The ultra-wide-angle lens has a focal length of 14mm and an aperture of f/2.2. The storage ranges from 12GB+512GB to 16GB+1TB.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro has an even larger battery capacity of 6100mAh, increasing a 1220mAh battery capacity. The weight has been reduced to 10g compared to the previous generation. It features an upgraded cooling system with 14% more cooling area. The three Leica large-aperture lenses cover 14mm to 120mm focal lengths suitable for portraits and landscapes. It has an aperture of f/1.44.
The telephoto lens is the same as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with the Sony IMX858 sensor. A 20x UltraZoom feature along with the capacity to produce UltraRaw digital negatives are added features. The storage capacity offered ranges from 12GB+256GB to 16GB+1TB.
Xiaomi 15 series comes with multiple attractive colors and a unique Liquid Silver Edition. The Custom Edition comes with a black and white high gloss frame and three color palettes. There are an additional 20 custom color options that can be combined to create 40 different color combinations. Xiaomi 15 Limited Edition has a middle frame with an eco-cultivated diamond and a black panel made from nano-tech vegan leather material. The price of the Series starts from 4,499 RMB to 5,999 RMB.
